He goes into all the important aspects of the dog's life such as, health, food, shelter, and training. I am hoping to get a dog soon and I wanted to read a book that would teach me the most important things about how to raise a balanced dog. After reading, I felt armed with knowledge because Cesar described the important things to do when you are buying a puppy, bringing the puppy home, and raising the puppy to be a healthy dog. I feel confident that I have the ability to raise a puppy now. I highly recommend this book for all prospective dog owners and current dog owners.
Anyone that has an interest in Cesar Millan and what he does with dogs will love this book. I bought this book for my husband as part of his birthday gift. it was his favorite gift. It is also a little peek into Cesars family life. Enjoy.
I am always amazed by The Dog Whisperer. This book gives great insight and is easy to read and follow through with the instructions. Love this one.
Science knows better now, and national and international canine associations have spoken out against Cesar and his methods. Do your homework before trying ANYTHING Cesar recommends, and remember that no one works for free, including your dog - it's necessary to be the boss you'd want to have and to build a trusting relationship with your dog in order for your dog to work for you.Additionally, it needs to be mentioned that Cesar's recommendations aren't just unreasonable for most dog owners, they're also unsafe for most dogs, particularly his recommendation for hours of exercise. Additionally, these techniques are outright dangerous for professional dog trainers (of which Cesar isn't one), let alone the average dog owner. Cesar's "methods" are questionable at best, and this book proved to be no different than his TV show and previous books - emphasizing flooding, force, and dominating your dog. If you're having problems with your dog, find a real professional that can explain the science behind their methods and are happy to demonstrate them for you. Most people also have no idea that Cesar was sued by a very well known producer, among others, because his "methods" resulted in the death of dogs.
It WILL make the issues worse.
Groups like the American Humane Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Associaton of Pet Dog Trainers, and Truly Dog Friendly, along with veterinary behaviorists, certified dog trainers, applied behaviorists (ie, people with advanced degrees in animal behavior), The San Francisco Chronical, Bark magazine, The New York Times, and many others have all spoken against Cesar Millan because his methods are inhumane, outdated, and inappropriate.
In turn, the body gets used to the increased adrenaline production and needs to increase production even further.
Techniques like the "alpha roll" and "scruff shake" aren't founded in what science now knows, but rather in what science thought about the behavior of wolves - a completely different species - and captive wolves, at that.
Excessive exercise is not only bad for a dog's joints and connective tissues, but also for his endocrine system - over-exercise leads to an increase in adrenaline, which leads to a variety of things like increased heart rate, raised blood pressure, and cardiac stress, not to mention chronic excessive salivation, dehydration, and diarrhea.
Esquire even named him Misguided Expert of The Year.
And with good reason: He may make for good TV, but he's doing a great disservice to dog owners and, especially, dogs, everywhere.There is no excuse for using brute force with dogs, especially dogs with fear or anxiety issues.
Please, I can't say it enough, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

This book arrived on time in perfect condition. I have all the books Cesar has written,have watched all his shows, and "my pack" has gotten so much more controlled. And, I not longer have to pretend to be the Leader, Cause now with Cesar on my shoulder all the time,I AM THE LEADER OF MY PACK.My kids watch his show also,they each have dogs of their own and belive in Cesars ways too. Oh wait, thats a book I have too.I just wish my chihuahua would read and save me some work,he's been the hardest so far,but if I stay calm assertive,we will all be a balance pack.Thank you Cesar.
